Jack focuses his practice on the drafting and procurement of U.S. and foreign patents related to electrical, computer, and software technologies. Jack also provides litigation support and technical analysis in connection with strategic advisory and legal opinion matters, including assessing claim construction, infringement, and invalidity issues.
Jack is experienced in procuring patent protection for innovations in a diverse range of technological areas including data management and security, artificial intelligence and machine learning, blockchain applications, business methods, e-commerce, Internet services, digital rights management (DRM), software, telecommunications and network infrastructure equipment, advanced autonomous vehicle software and systems, mechanical devices, wireless systems, optical devices and materials, semiconductor materials and processing, hybrid electric and fuel cell vehicles, and solar cell technologies.
Prior to co-founding the firm, Jack was a partner at a boutique intellectual property law firm and an associate in the Technology and Intellectual Property Group at Stoel Rives, LLP in Salt Lake City, Utah. Jack began his legal career as a student associate at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP in Palo Alto, California, where he gained extensive experience in strategic patent planning and portfolio development, reexamination proceedings, and IP due diligence studies. During his undergraduate studies, Jack worked as a research assistant at the University of Utah, where he conducted research investigations in laser and optical systems, non-linear optics, and optical biological detection platforms for lab-on-a-chip applications. Jack also conducted research on innovative microfluidic optical devices as an intern at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey, and is an inventor of a U.S. patent on such a device.
